that it must be universal, inspiring, sentimental, emotional etc. and
also exactly 3¼ seconds long. Why? Are there cultural codings preparing
us to be affected in specific ways and impacting on the overall Windows
experience. Microsoft wanted a piece of music to evoke the basic
experience of using their operating system, which meant, in essence, to
situate a user's emotional frame of reference within certain parameters.
